บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย
The objectives of the research are 1) to study the situation of students’ motivation for learning English at Shan Tat Kyi government high school in Magway region of Myanmar, 2) to analyze the motivations patterns (Instrumental and integrative motivation) of students who are learning English at Shan Tat Kyi government high school in Magway region of Myanmar. This research method for the study was both qualitative and quantitative research. The populations of this research were ninety-five students. Numbers of the samples were seventy-five high school students who were studying at Shan Tat Kyi government high school in Magway region of Myanmar.
The findings of the study are as follows:
After analyzing the data collection, the results appeared that thirty-nine students were 52.0% for males and thirty-six students were 48.0% for females. Most of the students were aged 16 (37.3%). The next respondents were 15 years old (22.7%). The next groups were 14 years old (20.0%). 17 years old were (12.0%). 18 years old were (6.7%). Only 19 years of student was (1.3%). The majority of high school students were in grade (54.7%). Grade 11 were (45.3%). The respondents of favorite subjects, the Majority 23 (30.7%) are computers. 14 (18.7%) were English. 13 (17.3%) were mathematics. 12 (16.0%) were from Myanmar. 9 (12.0%) were geography. 4 (5.3%) were in science. The finding results received that level of integrative motivation was higher than instrumental motivation because this integrative motivation showed the highest mean score of 3.88 (S.D. =1.273), 3.08 (S.D. =1.036), and 2.60 (S.D. =1.461), as shown in the statement tables four, six, and five, and then instrumental motivation described the highest mean scores of 3.53 (S.D =1.33), 2.65 (S.D =1.26), and 2.26 (S.D =.963) according to the results above. However, they were motivated to study many subjects, such as the English language at Shan tat Kyi government high school in Magway region of Myanmar.
Finally, as far as open-ended interview results are concerning the motivation for learning English with four questions: Do your parents motivate you when you study English at Shan tat Kyi government high school? What is your main ambition in learning English at Shan Tat Kyi government high school? Do you have any problem learning English at Shan Tat Kyi government high school? Do you believe that learning English is very important for you to get high marks in your class? The results of the interview revealed that many students had problems with the learning process in the English language at Shan Tat Kyi government high school, Magway region of Myanmar because they had difficulties in vocabulary and grammar. They desire to learn the English language so they could get a good job for their future. Some students motivate to study many subjects in school because their parents encourage them. Finally, the research findings could contribute to developing the learning process in the English language at the Shan Tat Kyi government high school in Magway region of Myanmar.
