บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง “การศึกษาวิเคราะห์ความสำคัญของจักกวัตติสูตร” นี้  มีวัตถุประสงค์ 3 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อศึกษาโครงสร้างเนื้อหาของจักกวัตติสูตร 2) เพื่อศึกษาหลักธรรมที่ปรากฏในจักกวัตติสูตร และ 3) เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์ความสำคัญของจักกวัตติสูตร วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยศึกษาข้อมูลจากคัมภีร์พระไตรปิฎกและเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้อง

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

จักกวัตติสูตรเป็นพระสูตรว่าด้วยเรื่องพระเจ้าจักรพรรดิ พระสูตรนี้ พระผู้มีพระภาคทรงแสดงแก่ภิกษุและชาวเมืองมาตุลา ขณะประทับอยู่ที่เมืองมาตุลา แคว้นมคธ โดยแบ่งโครงสร้างออกเป็น 3 ส่วน คือ ๑) ภาคอุทเทศ เป็นบทเริ่มต้นที่พระผู้มีพระภาคเจ้าทรงตรัสสอนให้ภิกษุทั้งหลายพึ่งธรรม พึ่งตนเอง โดยการเจริญสติปัฏฐาน 4  2 ภาคนิทเทส เป็นบทที่อธิบายเนื้อเรื่องที่พระองค์ทรงสาธกนิทานทั้งในอดีตและอนาคตมาเป็นบุคลาธิษฐานเพื่อสอนพระภิกษุ และท้ายของภาคนิทเทสตรัสถึงพระศรีอริยเมตไตรย และ 3 ภาคนิคมน์ เป็นการบทสรุปในการตรัสพระสูตรนี้ ว่าผู้ปฏิบัติธรรมย่อมเจริญด้วยอายุ วรรณะ สุขะ โภคะ และพละ เมื่อกล่าวโดยสรุปแล้ว พระสูตรนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) แสดงวิธีบรรลุเป้าหมายสูงสุดในทางพระพุทธศาสนาด้วยการทำตนให้เป็นที่พึ่ง และ 2) วิธีการปกครองโดยใช้หลักจักรวรรดิวัตร 12 ประการ เพื่อใช้แก้ปัญหาของสังคมใน 3 ระดับคือ (1) ระดับปัจเจกบุคคล (2) ระดับสังคมครอบครัว และ (3) ระดับสังคมโดยรวม

ส่วนหลักธรรมในจักกวัตติสูตร ได้แก่ (1) สติปัฏฐาน ธรรมอันเป็นที่พึ่ง (2) จักรวรรดิวัตร  วัตรปฏิบัติของนักปกครอง (3) ศีล หลักควบคุมพฤติกรรมมนุษย์ (4) กรรม ผลของการกระทำ      (5) อิทธิบาท ธรรมที่ทำให้อายุยืน (6) คุณเครื่องความเป็นสมณะ ธรรมที่ทำให้มีวรรณะ (7) ฌาน ธรรมที่ทำให้มีความสุข  (8) อัปปมัญญา ธรรมที่ทำให้มีโภคะ และ (9) วิมุตติ ธรรมอันเป็นเครื่องเพิ่มกำลังให้ภิกษุผู้บำเพ็ญเพียร ซึ่งหลักธรรมทั้ง 9 ประการดังกล่าวนั้น เป็นเสมือนองค์ประกอบที่ช่วยส่งเสริม สนับสนุนกันและกันให้เข้าถึงจุดหมายสูงสุดทั้งที่เป็นโลกิยะคือความเป็นพระเจ้าจักรพรรดิราช และจุดหมายสูงสุดที่เป็นโลกุตตระคือพระนิพพาน

จากการศึกษาความสำคัญของจักกวัตติสูตรนั้น พบว่า จักกวัตติสูตรนั้น ต้องการเสนอหลักการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตด้วยวิธีการพึ่งตนเองโดยใช้สติปัฏฐาน 4  เป็นเครื่องนำ และการใช้ระบบการปกครองแบบธรรมาธิปไตยคือถือธรรมเป็นใหญ่ อาศัยหลักธรรมให้ความคุ้มครองอันเป็นธรรมแก่มนุษย์และสัตว์ ทำคนไม่มีทรัพย์ให้มีทรัพย์ และส่งเสริมศีลธรรม โดยทรงยึดหลักกุศลกรรมบถ 10  และยกหลักศีล 5 มาใช้ในระบบการปกครอง ทำให้ประชาชนตั้งตนไว้ชอบ  มีการดำรงชีพด้วยความเกื้อหนุนกัน  ให้มีกระบวนการคบหาสัตบุรุษคือจัดระบบการศึกษาที่ดี  และการทำให้ประชาชนได้มีโอกาสทำความดี 

บทคัดย่อภาษาอังกฤษ

The thesis on “An Analytical Study of the Importance of the Cakkavattisutta” has 3 objectives: 1) to study the structure of contents of the Cakkavattisutta, 2) to study dhammas of the Buddha in Cakkavattisutta, and 3) to analyze the Importance of the Cakkavattisutta. This thesis is of qualitative approach of study; the sources of the study had been collected from tipitaka and the related documents of this study.

The results of the study were as follows:

Cakkavattisutta is related to the Emperor; the Buddha preached this sutta to monks and people in Matula city while he was staying at Matula city of Magadha state. This sutta has been divided into three sections. They are: i) prologue:  it is the introductory content of the sutta which the Buddha advised monks to refuge dhamma and themselves with the four foundation of mindfulness (4 Satipatthanas), ii) Exposition: it is the explanatory section of the sutta, in this section, the Buddha had brought the stories both in the previous and in the future as the personification to teach monks, and in the last story of this section, the Buddha mentioned to the next Buddha (Sri Ariya Mettaiya Buddha) and, iii) Conclusion:- it is the summarized section of the sutta; it shows that one who follows dhammas would obtain long life, beautiful skin, happiness, affluence, and strength. In summing up, this sutta intends to show: i) the way to attain the ultimate goal of Buddhism emphasizing in dhamma and themselves, and ii) the way to govern state with 12 Universal Monarch (12 Cakkatvattivatras) for problem-resolution of the society in three levels, viz., individual, family, and society as a whole.

Dhammas of the Buddha in Cakkavattisutta consist of: 1) foundations of mindfulness (Satipatthanas), 2) The duties of the administrators (Cakkatvattivatras), 3) the moral codes that control one’s behavior (Sīla), 4) Kamma and its results,       5) Dhamma that makes ones long lived (Idthipāda), 6) the state of being ascetic,      7) Absorption (Jhāna)--Dhamma that makes ones happy 8) the Unbounded States (Appamaññā)—Dhamma that provides one’s wealth), and 9) the Deliverance (Vimutti)—Dhamma that provides strength to ascetics who have exertion. These nine dhammas are as the components that supplement and support each other till reaching the ultimate goals both worldly and supramundane one, that is to say, the ultimate goal of worldly life is to becoming the Emperor, whereas the supramundane goal is called Nibbāna.

From the importance of the Cakkavattisutta as mentioned above, it was found that this sutta would like to present the principles aiming at developing the quality of life through self-refuge having four foundation of mindfulness as the leading role; in addition, this sutta would also like to show the system of the good governance or the righteous governance by way of dhamma—giving protection to men and animal righteously by giving materials to poor people, and promoting of morality by applying five precepts to be the system of administration of the state. This system aims at advising people to set themselves in the right course— people live life with helping each other; there has also to be the method of associating with good man, that is to say, education system would be well established in order to give opportunities to people to do good
