วัตถุประสงค์ของการวิจัยนี้ มี 3 คือ 1. เพื่อศึกษาหลักทางสายกลางในพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาท 2. เพื่อศึกษาหลักการดำเนินชีวิตของข้าราชการครูอำเภอสัตหีบ จังหวัดชลบุรี และ 3. เพื่อเสนอแนวทางการประยุกต์ใช้หลักทางสายกลางตามแนวพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาท ในการดำเนินชีวิตของข้าราชการครู อำเภอสัตหีบ จังหวัดชลบุรี การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บข้อมูลจากผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญ (In-depth interview) จำนวน 56 คน เลือกแบบเจาะจงจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญ เครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล ได้แก่ แบบสอบถามเชิงลึกที่มีโครงสร้าง เก็บข้อมูลด้วยการสัมภาษณ์แบบตัวต่อตัว

            ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

            1. ด้านครอบครัว วิธีการทำให้ครอบครัวเป็นไปตามหลักธรรมทางสายกลาง ควรมีความซื่อสัตย์ซึ่งกันและกัน รู้จักปรับเปลี่ยนการใช้ชีวิตอย่างสมดุลยืดหยุ่นเข้ากับสถานการณ์ ให้ความรักและเอาใจใส่แนะนำให้ความรู้อบรมสั่งสอนให้ประพฤติปฏิบัติอยู่ในกรอบของศีล สมาธิ และปัญญา มีคุณธรรมอยู่เสมอ อบรม แนะนำตักเตือน สั่งสอน มีกิจกรรมที่ทำร่วมกันในครอบครัวเพื่อเป็นการหล่อหลอมจิตใจจิตและเป็นแบบอย่างที่ดีในการดำเนินชีวิตแสมาชิกในครอบครัว

            2. ด้านการงาน ข้าราชการครู ควรมีหลักธรรม คือสัมมากัมมันตะ ที่เหมาะสมกับครู เพราะตั้งใจปฏิบัติหน้าที่ให้ดีที่สุด ผู้ที่ดำเนินชีวิตโดยปฏิบัติตามหลักทางสายกลางทำให้ประสบความสำเร็จในอาชีพการงาน มีการมุ่งสู่การพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ผ่านปัญหาต่าง ๆ ไปได้ และข้าราชครูควรสมบูรณ์ด้วยศีล และปัญญา เพราะครูคือแบบอย่างของลูกศิษย์ จึงควรถ่ายทอดวิชาการให้ศิษย์ที่รู้จริง สอดแทรกความรู้ทางธรรมแก่ศิษย์ อีกทั้งครูไม่เกี่ยวข้องกับอบายมุขต่าง ๆ เมื่อปฏิบัติได้ย่อมส่งผลต่อผหน้าที่การงานของเรา

            3. ด้านสังคม ถ้าคนไทยทุกคนปฏิบัติตามหลักธรรมทางสายกลาง ทุกคนจะมีความสงบ เมื่อทุกคนมีความสุข สังคมจะสงบสุข ประเทศชาติก็จะสงบสุขไปด้วย เพราะการนำทางสายกลางมาปฏิบัติจะทำให้การดำเนินชีวิตเป็นไปอย่างมีความสุข เนื่องจากปัจจุบันสังคมของเราเป็นสังคมก้มหน้า อยู่กับวัตถุมากเกินไปถ้า จึงต้องมีหลักทางสายกลางเข้ามาเป็นที่ยึดเหนี่ยว โดยเริ่มจากตนเองก่อน แล้วค่อยถ่ายทอดสู่คนอื่น และโดยไม่สร้างความเดือดร้อนให้แก่ตนเองและผู้อื่นได้ด้วย ยึดมั่นในคุณธรรมความดี ไม่โลภ ไม่ทะเยอทะยาน หรืออยากได้ในวัตถุสิ่งของที่พุ่งเฟือยเกินความจำเป็น

              In this dissertation, the objectives were purposely made: 1) to study the principle of Middle path in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study the principles in living life of government teachers, Sattahip District, Chon buri province, and 3) to propose the guidelines to apply the principle of Middle path in Theravada Buddhism in living life of government teachers, Sattahip District, Chon buri province. This a qualitative research done by studying documents and In-depth Interview of fifty-six personnel selected from purposive samples, the research tools were of structural in-depth interview form and individual interview.

              The research results were found as follows:

              1) In family, the methods to drive it in accordance with the principle of Middle path should be done through the honesty, the balance adaptation to flexibly suit the existing situation, love and paying proper attention where the instruction of the precepts, concentration and wisdom is morally done all the times. In this, the together-activities should be implemented within the family so that the members’ mind could be comforted which would provide the role model for the living life of family members.

              2) In work, the government teachers should follow the Dhamma principles, the right action where their duty is functionally assigned to the given work. Once they properly follow the principle of Middle path, then they would succeed in the profession which would lead to the endless development. It is said that if the government teachers follow the precepts and wisdom, it is only then they would instruct their students to the right knowledge wherein the principle of Dhamma is also cultivated. In this situation, the government teachers must not involve themselves with the drug. Consequently, their progress in the given duty is made to a higher level.

              3) In society, if all Thai people properly observe the principle of Middle path, the only happiness would be expected; all are happy, the happiness would be brought to a society as well as the nation because the happiness and the Middle path are naturally interrelated. It is believed that in the present our society becomes a blended society focusing only on the materiality. In order to solve this influent problem, the Middle path must be applied into people’s living life where it should be the starter of oneself and then extended to others. Under this circumstance, one does not harm oneself nor not others. As a result of that, one is attached to certain virtue where desire and hatred are destroyed.
