บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย

   This thesis entitled A Study of English Reading Skills of Vietnamese Students in Foreign Language University of Danang for IELTs Test comprises three objectives: 1) to study reading skill for IELTs test; 2) to find out the difficulties of Vietnamese students in reading skill for IELTs test; and 3) to study the techniques to improve reading skill in IELTs test. This research is a mixed research method between quantitative research and documentary research in nature. A questionnaire is used for collecting quantitative data from 25 samples out of 130 Vietnamese students in Foreign Language University of Danang by a questionnaire. Statistics including Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) is used for analyzing data.   

Findings of the study are as follows: 

1. From a study of techniques improving Reading skill for IELTs test at Danang Foreign Language University in Vietnam it found the techniques to helps Vietnamese students answer some kinds of question in IELTs test such as matching heading question, true false not given question, summary completion question, sentence completion question, multiple choice question, matching sentence endings question short answer question, completing table or chart question

              2. In respect of a study of the problems concerning techniques of improving Reading skill for IELTs test at Danang Foreign Language University in Vietnam, it found that there were 5 problems concerning techniques of improving Reading skill for IELTs test at Danang Foreign Language University including 1) The Students cannot read fast and accurately; 2) The students are the lack of vocabulary and grammar; 3) The students get bored and tired quickly in examination; 4) The students cannot apply  reading skills effectively; 5) The students cannot find general ideas and supporting details.

 3. With regard suggestions of solution for improving the techniques of Reading skill for IELTs test at Danang Foreign Language University in Vietnam, it revealed that there were 5 solutions for improving the techniques of Reading skill for IELTs test at Danang Foreign Language University in Vietnam including 1) The students should use some skills such as skimming, scanning, previewing, predicting in order to find information in Reading text instead of reading every word. Additionally, students should not stop to look up or think about meanings of unfamiliar words; 2) the students should discover the meaning of unknown words by guessing from the context or from structural knowledge of the language or from source language cognate such as prefixes, roots, and suffixes; 3) the students should set high target for examination and learn how to use some reading skills such as skimming, scanning, paraphrasing, previewing, predicting effectively; 4) the students should learn how to use skimming, scanning, paraphrasing skills or use it for what kind of question in IELTs reading test, especially practicing these skills every day at home; 5) The students should distinguish the difference between main ideas and supporting details and apply right strategies to look for them in some paragraphs and long text.
