วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง “ศึกษาความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์ (พระธาตุหนองบัว)  ที่มีต่อชุมชน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดเรื่องพระธาตุเจดีย์ในพระพุทธศาสนา เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นมา และความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์  (พระธาตุหนองบัว) ที่มีต่อชุมชน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์ความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์ (พระธาตุหนองบัว) ที่มีต่อชุมชน อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี

               ผลการศึกษา พบว่า แนวคิดเรื่องพระธาตุเจดีย์ในพระพุทธศาสนา มี 4  แนวคิด ดังนี้  1) แนว คิดการออกแบบเจดีย์ตามหลักพระพุทธศาสนา  2) แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับการปฏิบัติต่อพระเจดีย์  3) แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับอานิสงส์การสร้างพระเจดีย์ 4) แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับอานิสงส์ของการบูชาพระเจดีย์

               ความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์ที่มีต่อชุมชน พบว่ามี 3 ส่วน ดังนี้ 1) ความเป็นมา  สร้างพระธาตุองค์เล็กเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2499  แล้วเสร็จในปีพุทธศักราช 2501 สร้างพระธาตุใหญ่ครอบเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 2505  เสร็จในปีพุทธศักราช 2512  บูรณะซ่อมแซมในปีพุทธศักราช 2551  2) วัตถุประสงค์ของการสร้าง เพื่อให้ประชาชนได้สักการบูชาพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ เพื่อให้เป็นอนุสรณ์สถานเนื่องในวาระมงคลกึ่งพุทธกาล 2500 ปี เพื่อให้เป็นพระธาตุประจำจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์  มี 5 ด้าน คือ  ด้านการให้ทาน  ด้านการรักษาศีล  ด้านการภาวนา  ด้านประเพณี  ด้านการท่องเที่ยว            

               ผลจากการวิเคราะห์ความสำคัญของพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์ที่มีต่อชุมชน พบว่าจำแนก ออกเป็น 3 ด้าน ดังนี้  1) ด้านการให้ทาน คือ ประชาชนในชุมชนมีความเสียสละ ช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูล  แบ่งปัน อุทิศตนเพื่อประโยชน์ส่วนรวม และไม่ตระหนี่  2) ด้านการรักษาศีล คือ ประชาชนเคารพกฎเกณฑ์ทางสังคม  มีการปลูกฝังเบญจธรรม  สำรวมเบญจศีล  สำรวมอินทรีย์  3) ด้านการภาวนา คือ  (1) กายภาวนา  สามารถอยู่กับสภาพแวดล้อมทางสังคมและธรรมชาติ  ใช้ชีวิตด้วยความไม่ประมาท  ไม่ตกอยู่ภายใต้อำนาจของเทคโนโลยี สามารถนำหลักธรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนาไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการดำรงชีวิ (2) ศีลภาวนา ยึดหลักศีล 5 ในการดำรงชีวิต (3) จิตตภาวนา จัดกิจกรรมปฏิบัติธรรม ทำวัตรสวดมนต์ นั่งสมาธิ (4) ปัญญาภาวนา ตั้งอยู่ในความไม่ประมาท ยึดหลักโยนิโสมนสิการ ดำรงชีวิตด้วยหลักสัมมาทิฐิ

               The thesis entitled “A Study of Importance of the Phraborommathat chedisrimahapho (Phrathatnongbua) for the Community in Mueang District, Ubontatchathani Province” aimed to study the concepts of Buddhist stupa, to study the history and importance of Phraborommathatchedisrimahapho (Phrathatnongbua) to the community in Mueang District, Ubontatchathani Province and to analytically study the importance of Phraborommathatchedisrimahapho (Phrathatnongbua) for the community in Mueang District, Ubontatchathani Province.

               It has been found that the concepts of Buddhist stupa were divided into four aspects, viz. 1) the concept of designation on the stupa 2) the concept of practical and regulation on the stupa 3) the concept of advantages in constructing the stupa 4) the concept of advantages in worshiping the stupa.

               The importance of Phraborommathatchedisrimahapho to the community were separated into three parts, viz. 1) the history: a small stupa was built in B.E. 2499-completed in B.E. 2501, later, the small stupa was wrapped in the bigger stupa in B.E. 2505-completed in 2512 and it was reconstructed in B.E. 2551 2) the purpose in building the stupa: for worshiping the Buddha’s relics, for the monument on the occasion of 2500 years of the Buddha and the stupa built symbolizes Ubonratchatani province 3) the importance: Phraborommathatchedisrimahapho represented five fundamentals, viz. Donation, precepts, meditation, tradition and tourism.

               The results in analyzing the importance of Phraborommathatchedi srimahapho to the community have been found in three aspects, viz. 1) Donation; the people in the community realize to the devotion, helping each other, distribution, devoting themselves for the public and not be so stingy 2) Precepts; the people follow the social rules, cultivate the five nobling virtues, be composed to the five precepts and be composed to the sense-faculties 3) Meditation; (1) Physical development- balancing with social and natural environments, live with care, free from technology and apply Buddhist principles in living (2) Moral development- following the five precepts in living (3) Emotional development- organize meditation activity, praying and practice insight meditation (4) Wisdom development- maintaining carefulness, following the systematic attention and living with right understanding.
