This gualitative thesis consists of three objectives: 1) To study the concept of the pairs of roots in Abhidhamma Piṭaka; 2) to study the pairs of roots of wholesome words (kusala pada) and unwholesome words (akusala pada); and 3) to analyze the proper way to cultivate wholesome words,  to overcome  unwholesome words, and to apply it into daily life.

From the study, it has been found the pair of roots in Abhidhammapiṭaka through the concepts and backgound of Yamaka, the method of pair of roots in Yamaka as well as the different definitions of the roots in Abhidhamma.

The second is the pair of roots of wholesome words and unwholesome words in related doctrines and commentaries as well as the characteristic in forms of questions and answers in Yamaka.

Finally, the most important finding in the research is to apply the question and answer method clearly analyzied to get deeper understanding of the Buddha's teachings on the pair of roots in Yamaka, whereby the proper way to cultivate wholesome words and eradicate unwholesome words in daily life is proposed through analyzing the principles of nature and characters.
