งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาหลักอัตถิภาวนิยมในพระพุทธศาสนา 2) เพื่อศึกษาทฤษฎีอัตถิภาวนิยม 3) เพื่อวิเคราะห์หลักอัตถิภาวนิยมในพระพุทธศาสนา เป็นการวิจัยเชิงเอกสาร ศึกษาข้อมูลจากพระไตรปิฎก เอกสารวิชาการ และงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงพรรณนาตามหลักอุปนัยวิธี

         ผลการวิจัยพบว่า

         1. หลักอัตถิภาวนิยมในพระพุทธศาสนา พบว่า สภาวะของจิตที่มีเสรีภาพเป็นจิตปภัสสรที่มีความบริสุทธิ์เพราะปราศจากกิเลสเศร้าหมองมารบกวน และจิตประภัสสรนี้เกิดความเศร้าหมองขึ้นเพราะถูกกิเลสต่าง ๆ ครอบงำจนไร้เสรีภาพ และเสรีภาพนี้จะเกิดขึ้นได้ด้วยการปฏิบัติอย่างเคร่งครัดจนจิตหลุดพ้นจากอวิชชา ตัณหา อุปาทาน จนบรรลุพระนิพพาน จึงได้ชื่อว่า จิตมีเสรีภาพอย่างแท้จริง 

         2. ทฤษฎีอัตถิภาวนิยม พบว่า เสรีภาพเป็นสภาวะของจิตที่มีอิสระ สามารถทำการต่าง ๆ ได้ตามปรารถนา ไม่มีอุปสรรคใด ๆ มาขัดขวางการกระทำของตน โดยถือว่า มนุษย์ถูกสาปให้มีเสรีภาพ และเกิดมาพร้อมกับเสรีภาพ เสรีภาพจึงเป็นแก่นแท้ของชีวิตมนุษย์ เมื่อมนุษย์มีเสรีภาพ เขาจึงเลือกใช้เสรีภาพของเขาโดยไม่ให้ไปกระทบต่อเสรีภาพของคนอื่น 

         3. การวิเคราะห์หลักอัตถิภาวนิยมในพระพุทธศาสนา พบว่า การนำแนวคิดอัตถิภาวนิยมที่มีอยู่ในหลักคำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนามาเป็นกระบวนการพัฒนามนุษย์ให้เข้าถึงเป้าหมายที่แท้จริงในระดับโลกิยะคือการกระทำของตนให้ตั้งอยู่ในกุศลธรรม และระดับโลกุตตระด้วยการละสังโยชน์ได้ ซึ่งมีขั้นตอนการเข้าถึงเสรีภาพคือ การรักษาศีล เจริญสมาธิจนได้ฌาน แล้วยกจิตขึ้นสู่วิปัสสนาด้วยการพิจารณาเห็นไตรลักษณ์ และละสังโยชน์เครื่องผูกสัตว์ไว้ในสังสารวัฏ และการจะมีเสรีภาพมาก หรือน้อยขึ้นอยู่กับการละสังโยชน์ได้ ถ้าละได้ทั้ง 10 ข้อ ก็จะบรรลุนิพพานที่ถือเป็นเสรีภาพขั้นสูงสุดในพระพุทธศาสนา

         The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the principles of existentialism in Buddhism; 2) to study the theories of existentialism in Buddhism; 3) to analyze the principles of existentialism in Buddhism. This study was conducted by means of the documentary research methodology through investigating the Tipiṭaka, academic documents and related research. The obtained data were interpreted by the descriptive analysis based on the inductive method.  

         The research results were as follows:

         1) The principles of existentialism in Buddhism: the condition of the pleasant mind is pure and without defilement. The mind is impure due to the defilement leading to the lack of freedom. The freedom will occur due to the intensive practice leading to the elimination of ignorance, desire and attachment. This is truly called ‘real freedom’.

          2) The theories of existentialism in Buddhism: freedom is the condition of the free mind with the ability to perform any action without any obstacles. In this idea, human is cursed to have freedom and born with freedom. Freedom is the essence of human life. When human has freedom, he/she choose to use it without influence on freedom of the others.

          3) The analysis of the principles of existentialism in Buddhism: the ideal of existentialism can be seen in the Buddhist doctrine which is the process of human development towards the true goal in the mundane level referred to the self-action based on the wholesomeness; and for the supra-mundane level, it can be done by eradicating bondage. There are the stages to attain freedom as observing precepts and contemplation later on lifted up to the insight meditation by realizing the Threefold Characteristics and eliminating bondage bounding people in the cycle of existence. To have much or less freedom depends on the level of bondage elimination. Eradication of all ten items of bondage leads to the attainment of nirvana which is considered as the highest freedom in Buddhism.
