วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง “ศึกษาวิธีการแก้ปัญหาการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมในพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาท” มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาคือ 1) เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดและทฤษฏีเกี่ยวกับการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรม 2) เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดทางด้านพุทธจริยศาสตร์ต่อการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรม 3) เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์แนวทางแก้ไขปัญหาการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมในพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาท

              ผลการศึกษาพบว่า

 

              อัตวินิบาตกรรม หมายถึงการกระทำที่เป็นการตั้งใจฆ่าหรือทำลายตนเองจนประสบความสำเร็จตามความตั้งใจนั้น อันเกิดจากลักษณะด้านกายภาพ เช่น ความเจ็บป่วย และคุณภาพของสภาพจิตใจที่มีแรงกดดันทั้งจากครอบครัว เพื่อนร่วมงาน และสภาพปัญหาทางด้านเศรษฐกิจ เป็นต้น ในคัมภีร์พระพุทธศาสนามีหลักฐานการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรม เช่น กรณีพระฉันนเถระและพระวักกลิเถระ ซึ่งมีสาเหตุมาจากความต้องการพ้นทุกข์จากการเจ็บป่วยและการต้องการพ้นทุกข์ในวัฏสงสาร เมื่อพิจารณาตามหลักพุทธจริยศาสตร์แล้วพบว่า พระพุทธศาสนามีหลักการชัดเจนที่ไม่สนับสนุนการฆ่าผู้อื่น แต่ในกรณีการฆ่าตัวเองนั้นไม่ปรากฏเป็นความผิดชัดเจน แต่อย่างไรก็ตามพระพุทธศาสนาถือว่า การเกิดเป็นมนุษย์นั้นเป็นโอกาสที่ยาก หลักคำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนาทั้งหมดมุ่งไปที่การกระทำที่สุดแห่งกองทุกข์คือ พระนิพพาน ด้วยวิธีการที่เรียกว่า มรรค ดังนั้นการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมจึงเป็นการแก้ปัญหาที่ผิดหลักการทางพระพุทธศาสนาอย่างสิ้นเชิง

             พระพุทธศาสนามุ่งเน้นการแก้ไขปัญหาตามหลักอริยสัจ 4 บนหลักการที่ว่า ธรรมเหล่าใดมีเหตุให้เกิด ก็ย่อมมีเหตุให้ดับธรรมนั้นได้ แนวทางป้องกันการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมตามหลักพุทธบูรณาการจึงเป็นการทำความเข้าใจกับต้นตอของการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมคือ อวิชชา โดย (1) การสร้างสัมมาทิฏฐิ ได้แก่ การสร้างความเข้าใจที่ถูกต้องในสัจธรรมแห่งชีวิตและเข้าใจโลกตามความเป็นจริง โดยอาศัยเครื่องมือ 2 อย่าง คือ ปรโตโฆสะ การรับฟังผู้อื่น และโยนิโสมนสิการ การคิดอย่างแยบคาย และ (2) การมีกัลยาณมิตรเพราะกัลยาณมิตรจะเป็นผู้ที่ช่วยเหลือให้ปัญหาเบาบางลง เป็นการลดความเสี่ยงในการทำอัตวินิบาตกรรมลงด้วย

             The main purposes of this thesis on “A Study of the Way for Committing Suicide Solution in Theravãda Buddhism” were 1) to study the concept and theory of committing suicide 2) to study the Buddhist ethic on committing suicide and 3) to analyze study the ways for committing suicide solution in Theravãda Buddhism.

 

             The results revealed that

 

             Committing suicide’ referred to the intentional act of killing or destroying oneself until one achieved that intention. This was caused by physical characteristics, such as illness and by quality of the mental state which was pressured by the family, colleagues, and economic problems. The committing suicide in Buddhist texts appeared in cause of Monk Channa, cause of illness, and Monk Vakkali, cause of suffering. In Buddhist ethics were found that Buddhism had a clear principle that did not support killing others and oneself. Buddhism assumed human existence was a difficult opportunity. The doctrines of Buddhism all focused on the ultimate act of suffering, Nibbãna, by the way that was called ‘Magga’ or the path leading to the cessation of suffering. Committing suicide, therefore, was a completely wrong solution according to the Buddhist principles.

 

             Buddhism focused on solving problems according to the Four Noble Truths on the principle what happened by cause, there was also a cause to extinguish it. Understanding about the really cause of committing suicide; i.e. Avicha, was the approach to prevent it. And it was based on Buddhist principles. By these, there were two ways, i.e., 1) right view creating which meant to make a correct understanding of the truth of life and to understand the real world, so Paramatthasacca and Yonisomanasikàra were very important and 2) having good friends who helped the problems to be lesser and it also made the risk of committing suicide to be reduced.
