บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย
The objectives of this study are 1) to investigate the psychological factors towards English language learning between the 1st and 2nd year students of the Master of Arts in English International Program in the Faculty of Humanities at MCU. 2) To study the students’ psychological factors influencing English language learning achievement between the 1st and 2nd year students of Master of Arts in the English International Program of the Faculty of Humanities at MCU. The number of the population in this study was 55 M.A. 1st year and 2nd year students in English International Program in the Faculty of Humanities at MCU but the sampling participants were 48 students who were active to answer the research questions. The instrument used in this study was both quantitative and qualitative method. Research tools of this study were a research questionnaire and an open-ended interviews and giving comments. The responses of the participants were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation (S.D)
The result of research has been found that:
The result of objective one: After evaluating all results of the study, the researcher found that the motivation level of students in psychological factors toward English language learning was high equal to x̅ = 3.97 and standard deviation (S.D) was 1.236 because majority of students responded that they have good motivation in English learning. In the investigation of students’ attitude in objective one of the study, the level of students’ attitudes were low equal to x̅ = 2.09 and standard deviation (S.D) because in learning English, the students’ attitudes were not perfect according to their responses.
The result of objective two: In the objective two, the research questions were to investigate students’ strategy in psychological factors influencing English language learning achievement. In the objective two, there were three strategies: effective strategy, memory strategy and cognitive strategy. The average of mean in objective two (part two) was 3.68 and SD was 1.170 and then the level of the students’ strategies in psychological factors influencing English language learning achievement was high because students’ effective strategy five statements level was high; students’ memory strategy five statements level was moderate and students’ cognitive strategy level was high so, the total average level objective two result was high. Therefore, it could be evaluated that the students have good motivation in English learning but in English learning attitudes were weak; the students were good in English learning strategy and memory strategy but they were quite weak in memory strategy.
The result of in-depth interview: According to the answers of the respondents, the result of interview questions was that even the students have psychological problem, they are able to learn their English because most of students in MCU are Buddhist monks. So, as they are Buddhist monks, they learn English by Buddhist literature so they can control their psychological problem by taking meditation because Buddha’s teaching is the best psychotherapy in this world such as mindfulness meditation. But, some students answered that they had weak points in memory strategy in learning English.
