The number of population in this study was 50 M.A. first year and second year English (international program) students at the Faculty of Humanities in MCU but the sampling participants were 45 students who were active to answer the research questionnaire and research test. This research used both quantitative and qualitative method. Research tools of this study were a research questionnaire, a research test and an Open- ended interview, including additional comments. The responses of the participants were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation (S.D)

The result of research was found that:

The result of objective one:  After evaluating all results of the study, the researcher found that the difficulties level of the students in lexical and grammatical variation was moderate equal to = 2.24 and SD was 1.265   The average of mean in the table or objective one was 2.24 and SD was 1.265 because half of respondents agreed with the statements and half of the respondents did not agreed with the statement in objective one therefore the average level was moderate.

The result of objective two: In the result of objective two (part one), according to SPSS version, the result of the test consisting of 10 questions was: The average of mean in the objective two (part one) was 1.61 and SD was 0.654 and then the level of the test in lexical variation between American and British English was moderate because of students’ answers were wrong. In the result of objective two (part two), according to SPSS version, the result of the test consisting of 10 questions was: The average of mean in the objective two (part two) was 1.64 and SD was 0.692 and then the level of the test in grammatical variation between American and British English was also moderate because in objective two (part two) also half of students’ answers were wrong.

The result of open-ended interview: In the result of the open- ended, mostly the students were facing difficulties in present perfect and past simple tense and then in using article, nouns, preposition, adverb and adjectives.  In spelling, mostly the students were facing in difference words that end in “-or” vs. “-our”, the words end in ize” vs. “-ise”, the words that end “e” vs. “ae” and “oe”.  Majority of the students preferred British English and minority of the students preferred American English. Fifty percent of the students were familiar with British English and fifty percent were familiar with American English.
