บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย
This thesis entitled “The Study of English Usage from the book Breakthrough in Samatha Meditation and Vipassana Meditation by Pa-Auk Sayādaw And Dr. Mehm Tin Mon” has three objectives: 1) To study the English relative clauses usage in Breakthrough in Samatha Meditation and Vipassana Meditation by Pa-Auk Sayādaw and Dr. Mehm Tin Mon; and 2) To analyze the types and functions of English relative clauses usage in Breakthrough in Samatha Meditation and Vipassana Meditation by Pa-Auk Sayādaw and Dr. Mehm Tin Mon.
The study is a qualitative research in nature focusing on a documentary method by reading and studying some books concerning the topic of the problem. Then researcher collects the information from the books, documents and the data from the book called Breakthrough in Samatha Meditation and Vipassana Meditation by Pa-Auk Sayādaw And Dr. Mehm Tin Mon.
The study found that a clause is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. Relative clause is an adjective clause that describes the noun. It is important to remember that a relative clause is not a complete thought! They are used in sentences to further describe the noun. The six functions of Relative Clauses in English are: Relative Pronoun as Subject, Relative Pronoun as Object, Possessive Relative Clause, Relative Pronoun as Object of Preposition, Relative Pronoun in Phrases of Quantity and Quality, and Adverbial Relative Clause.
The percentage of the relative clause based on its types and functions in Breakthrough in Samatha Meditation and Vipassana Meditation by Pa-Auk Sayādaw And Dr. Mehm Tin Mon: 16 relative pronouns as subject= 11.59%, 75 relative pronouns as object= 54.34%, 2 possessive relative clauses= 1.44%, 20 relative pronouns as object of preposition= 14.49%, and 25 adverbial relative clauses= 18.11%.
