              วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เป็นการศึกษาเชิงสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะ มีวัตถุประสงค์ 3 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อศึกษา แนวคิด ความเชื่อ ระบบสัญลักษณ์ในพุทธศาสนาวัชรยานแบบทิเบต  2) เพื่อศึกษา รูปแบบภาพจิตรกรรมทังกาในพุทธศาสนาวัชรยานแบบทิเบต 3) เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมร่วมสมัยจากการศึกษาจิตรกรรมทังกาแบบทิเบต ผลการศึกษามีดังนี้

              จิตรกรรมทังกา หมายถึง ภาพวาดจิตรกรรมแบบภาพม้วนที่แสดงรูปพระพุทธเจ้า พระโพธิสัตว์ ธรรมบาล บุคคลสำคัญหรือเรื่องราวด้านพระพุทธศาสนา มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือถ่ายทอดพระธรรมคำสอนต่างๆ จิตรกรรมทังกานับว่าเป็นพุทธศิลป์ที่มีความใกล้ชิดกับชาวทิเบตมากที่สุดประเภทหนึ่ง ปรากฎอยู่ทั้งในศาสนสถานและอาคารบ้านเรือน ฆราวาสทุกระดับขั้นสามารถมีไว้ครอบครองได้

              ลักษณะทางรูปแบบศิลปกรรมของจิตรกรรมทังกามีความโดดเด่นทั้งรูปลักษณ์ สีเชิงสัญลักษณ์และเนื้อหาพุทธปัญชญา สามารถสรุปรูปแบบทางศิลปกรรมได้ 2 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ จิตรกรรมทังกาแบบภาคกลางและจิตรกรรมทังกาแบบภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ โดยทั้งสองมีรูปแบบร่วมกันคือ จิตรกรรมทังทิเบตที่ถูกพัฒนาไปจนเป็นรูปแบบของตนเองแล้วตั้งแต่ คริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 17 เป็นต้นมา โดยแบ่งออกได้ 4 ประเภท คือ 1. พระพุทธเจ้า 2. พระโพธิสัตว์ 3. ธรรมบาล 4. บุลคลสำคัญ

              การสร้างสรรค์จิตรกรรมร่วมสมัย มีจำนวน 9 ภาพ เกิดจากการสังเคราะห์ องค์ความรู้เกี่ยวกับภาพทังกาในพุทธศาสนาวัชรยานแบบทิเบตและนำมาสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจิตรกรรมร่วมสมัยโดยใช้รูปแบบนามธรรมและกึ่งนามธรรม โดยมีแนวคิดและเนื้อหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับ พระพุทธเจ้า

บทคัดย่อภาษาอังกฤษ

            This thesis presents a creative exploration of art within the context of Buddhist Thangka painting, with three primary objectives. Firstly, it aims to delve into the concepts, beliefs, and symbolic systems of Tibetan Buddhism as represented in the Thangka tradition. Secondly, it seeks to study the stylistic and narrative elements of Thangka art within Tibetan Buddhism. Lastly, it endeavors to create contemporary artwork inspired by the study of traditional Thangka painting.

          Thangka art, characterized by scroll paintings depicting the Buddha, sacred animals, enlightened beings, and narratives from Buddhist lore, serves as a profound tool for the transmission of Buddhist teachings. Thangka paintings are considered one of the closest forms of Buddhist art to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and are found in monasteries and households alike, offering spiritual guidance at all levels of society.

          The distinctive visual language of Thangka art effectively communicates complex narratives through symbolic elements, colors, and precise depictions of Buddha figures and sacred animals. Artists engaged in Thangka painting are required to possess an in-depth understanding of Buddhist philosophy, as well as a mastery of the visual representation of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as prescribed in religious texts.

            Thangka art encompasses four main categories, including depictions of the Buddha, sacred animals, enlightened beings, and significant figures. The study of Thangka art serves as a bridge between the spiritual teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and artistic expression.

           The creation of contemporary Thangka-inspired artwork involves a synthesis of knowledge gained from the study of Thangka art in Tibetan Buddhism. This study culminated in the creation of nine contemporary artworks, employing both traditional and semi-abstract styles. These creations draw inspiration from the essence of the Buddha.

             Furthermore, this thesis explores the representation of sacred animals, the Dharma Wheel, and the intricate symbolism embedded within Tibetan Buddhism. By engaging with these themes, the thesis illuminates the rich tapestry of artistic expression found within the Thangka tradition.

            In summary, this thesis offers a comprehensive investigation into the world of Thangka art in Tibetan Buddhism, providing insights into its significance, form, and spiritual implications. The resulting contemporary artworks serve as a testament to the enduring influence of this ancient tradition in modern artistic expression.
