บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย

This study has objectives 1) to examine the variations of the pronunciation errors of English consonant sounds of the first-year undergraduate students of Thammasat University, and 2) to classify the factors affecting the variations of English consonant sounds in the pronunciation errors of the first-year undergraduate students of Thammasat University. The participants of this study were 30 undergraduate students in English at the Liberal of Arts of Thammasat University. It is included with interviewing the students and it is mixed methods that include qualitative and quantitative methods employed in the study. Correspondingly, the validity and reliability of the research instruments answered, and data analyses.

The result of the findings is as follows.

From a study of principles of pronunciation errors of English consonant sounds made by first-year undergraduate student at Thammasat University it was generally high, while considering each part for the part of articulation mistake, the parts of jargon and English punctuation were high, and the parts of certainty and methodology used were moderate

 In regarding of a study of the pronunciation errors of English consonant sounds of the first-year undergraduate students of Thammasat University 1) Students had problems with English pronunciation, 2) Students had problems with English vocabulary, 3) Students had problems with English grammar, 4) Students had problems with confidence, and 5) Students had a lack of strategy uses of oral presentation.

With concerning to a study of the effective ways of classifying the problem of pronunciation errors of English consonant sounds, it found that students were required to practice pronunciation, students were required to increase more vocabulary, students were required to learn more about structures of English sentences, students were required to conduct a research and preparation, and students were required to understand clearly the structure of presentation including introduction, body and conclusion.

In viewing to quantitative researcher finding from the interviewing, it is found that the students made a mistake in articulating consonant [v] 21.4%, consonant [θ] 19.0%, consonant [ð] 26.2%, consonant [ʃ] 4.8%, consonant [ʒ] 26.2%, and furthermore consonant [ŋ] 2.4%. With 26.2% of students, the most frequently mispronounced consonants are [ch] and [sh]. The runner-up is consonant [v] with more than 20%. After that, there is a consonant [t] that almost makes up 20% of the language. Finally, there are the consonants and with fewer than 5% of errors.
