บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย
The purpose of this study is 1. to study English speaking improvement of Secondary School Students in the English Program at Matthayamwatnairong School Bangkok, 2. to find out the ways to improve English speaking for Secondary School Students in the English Program at Matthayamwatnairong School in Bangkok, and 3 to provide suggestions for methods of English-speaking improvement to enhance the ability of the Secondary School Students in the English Program at Matthayamwatnairong School, Bangkok. The research method used in the study is qualitative and quantitative. The population for this research is 109 students. The sample of the study is 109 Secondary School Students in English Program. The tools for collecting data in the study include both in-depth interviews and questionnaires. An analysis of the qualitative information and the content analysis is used for the analysis of the quantitative information and the statistics including Percentage, Frequency, Mean, and Standard Deviation (S.D), using the SPSS program.
The analysis of quantitative data revealed two significant findings. First, improvements in students' English-speaking abilities were evident. Among the specific aspects of speaking ability, item one, "They can speak English very well in the class," had the highest average at 41.18, with a standard deviation of 92. Item eight, focusing on the ease of communication in English within the classroom, closely followed with a mean of 4.15 and a standard deviation of 81. The third highest average is item 2 I can answer the question very well when my teacher asks me the questions. The statistical figure Mean is equal to 3.83 and the standard deviation is equal to 86. The fourth highest average is Item 7 I normally speak English in the classroom. The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.80 and the standard deviation is equal to 85. The fifth highest average is Item 13 which describes the students’ communication with other students in the classroom. The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.78 and the standard deviation is equal to 95.
The findings indicated that regarding the difficulty of English speaking most of the students have difficulties with “item 15: I have difficulty expressing my ideas in English.” The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.53 and the standard deviation is equal to 89. The second most difficulty is with “item 14: I have enough vocabulary knowledge to speak with other people. The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.58 and the standard deviation is equal to 80. The third difficulty is item 3: I have no difficulty in speaking with native speakers in the classroom. The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.61 and the standard deviation is equal to 95. The fourth difficulty is “item 6: I am not afraid of speaking English. The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.6 and the standard deviation is equal to 1.05. The fifth difficulty is “item 11: I don’t feel shy when I speak English.” The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.61 and the standard deviation is equal to 95. The sixth difficulty is “item 5: Speaking English in front of the public is not difficult for me.” The statistical figures Mean is equal to 3.63 and the standard deviation is equal to 1.00.
