บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย
The purposes of this study were 1) to study the problems of English reading skill and 2) to seek the way to solve the problems of the English reading skill of Bachelor’s Degree students, Faculty of Humanities of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Chiang Mai Campus. This research employs the Quantitative Research. The sampling groups were forty-seven of 4th year B.A. students in the Faculty of Humanities at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Chiang Mai Campus, including monks, novices, and lay-persons. The research instruments were five levels scale questionnaire. Statistical devices used in the data analysis were frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations.
The findings of this study were as follows: 1) the students faced the most difficulties were the sentence that is with longer word will be more difficult to understand than the shorter one, followed by the statement that when you have less knowledge related to the reading content, you cannot comprehend the main idea of the reading, that students were faced in learning English reading skill.
2) the ways to solve and improve English reading skills, it was found that the statement that using context clues to understand what is being read even if you do not know all vocabulary, followed by the statement that you would take online vocabulary quiz to assess the level of vocabulary understanding, which the respondents would like to put in the practice for their learning of English reading skill.
3) The result of hypotheses testing, hypothesis 1 the students’ opinions comparison on reading skills classified by gender it was not accepted. Hypotheses 2, the students’ opinions comparison on reading skills classified by status was accepted. Hypotheses 3, the students’ opinions comparison on reading skills classified by age was rejected.
According to the analysis of all the information above the researcher is absolutely sure that the information was fact, the problems and the ways to solve the problems of English reading skill, and classroom observation of the students would become sources for the future works of many researchers who need some of those information due to English reading skill is also one of the most importance skills in this technological world.
