บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย

วิทยานิพนธ์ เรื่อง “คัมภีร์พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทาน : การชำระและการวิเคราะห์” มีวัตถุประสงค์ 3 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อศึกษาประวัติพระพุทธโฆสาจารย์ที่ปรากฏในคัมภีร์ต่างๆ และคัมภีร์พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทาน มีการแพร่หลายในประเทศที่นับถือพระพุทธศาสนาใดบ้าง 2) เพื่อปริวรรต ตรวจชำระและแปลคัมภีร์พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทานจากต้นฉบับภาษาบาลี อักษรขอมเป็นภาษาบาลีอักษรไทย และแปลเป็นภาษาไทย 3) เพื่อวิเคราะห์ความสำคัญและคุณค่าของคัมภีร์พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทานที่มี ต่อพระพุทธศาสนา เป็นการวิจัยเชิงเอกสาร 

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ประวัติพระพุทธโฆสาจารย์ ท่านเป็นพระคันถรจนาจารย์ชาวอินเดียใต้ ในช่วงพุทธศตวรรษที่ 10 ผลงานสำคัญของท่านคือ คัมภีร์วิสุทธิมรรค ซึ่งเป็นการรวบรวมคำสอนเกี่ยวกับการปฏิบัติธรรมเพื่อการหลุดพ้นจากทุกข์ ท่านได้รับการศึกษาในศาสนาฮินดูในช่วงแรก ก่อนที่จะหันมาศึกษาพระพุทธศาสนาและบวชเป็นพระภิกษุในสำนักคณะมหิสาวาสติกะ ท่านเดินทางมายังเกาะลังกาเพื่อศึกษาพระธรรมวินัย และได้รจนาคัมภีร์อรรถกถาหลายเล่ม ผลงานของท่านมีบทบาทสำคัญต่อการรวบรวมและอธิบายคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้า และช่วยเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนาไปยังหลายประเทศทั่วโลก

2)  พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทานเป็นคัมภีร์สำคัญในพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาท ประพันธ์โดยพระมหามังคลเถระ เนื้อหาครอบคลุมประวัติของพระพุทธโฆสาจารย์ ผู้มีบทบาทสำคัญในการแปลและเผยแผ่พระไตรปิฎกจากภาษาบาลี ประกอบด้วย 10 ฉบับ 27 ผูก เก็บรักษาที่หอสมุดแห่งชาติ กรุงเทพมหานคร การวิจัยนี้ได้เลือกฉบับที่สมบูรณ์ที่สุดจำนวน 3 ผูกมาปริวรรตและแปลเป็นภาษาไทย ประเด็นหลักในคัมภีร์ประกอบด้วย: 1) ประวัติและการเกิดของพุทธโฆษาจารย์ 2) การศึกษาในอินเดียและศรีลังกา 3) ผลงานการแปลและเขียนคัมภีร์ เช่น วิสุทธิมรรค 4) การเผยแผ่พุทธศาสนาในภูมิภาคต่าง ๆ 5) เกียรติยศและการมรณภาพ

3) ความสำคัญและคุณค่าของคัมภีร์พุทธโฆสาจริยนิทาน คัมภีร์นี้ประพันธ์แบบร้อยแก้วผสมร้อยกรอง ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่เป็นร้อยแก้ว  คัมภีร์นี้จึงเป็นเอกสารสำคัญที่ให้ความรู้ด้านประวัติศาสตร์และพัฒนาการของพุทธศาสนาในยุคนั้น เพราะมีการอ้างอิงพระไตรปิฎก 6 แห่ง คัมภีร์อภิธัมมาวตาร 3 แห่ง และคัมภีร์ชินาลังการ 9 แห่ง คัมภีร์นี้จึงมีบทบาทสำคัญในการศึกษาประวัติศาสตร์พระพุทธศาสนา โดยเฉพาะการแพร่ขยายจากชมพูทวีปสู่ลังกาทวีป การประดิษฐานพระพุทธศาสนาในลังกาทวีป และประวัติของพระพุทธโฆสาจารย์และเป็นแหล่งข้อมูลสำคัญในการศึกษาพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาทในปัจจุบัน

บทคัดย่อภาษาอังกฤษ

The thesis entitled "the Buddhaghosãcariyanidãna: The Edition and Analytical studies" is of 3 objectives: 1) to study the histories of the Buddhaghosãcãraya as presented in various canonical texts and the Buddhaghosãcariyanidãna texts having disseminated in Buddhist countries, 2) to transliterate, edit, and translate the from the Khamare Pali original manuscripts into Thai Pali and Thai language, and 3) to analyze the their significances and values towards Buddhism. It was the Documentary Research.

The research findings are as follows: 1) History of Buddhaghosa: He was a renowned Buddhist scholar from South India during the 10^th century. His major work, the Visuddhimagga, compiles teachings on the practice of Dhamma aimed at liberation from suffering. Initially educated in Hinduism, he later turned to Buddhism and was ordained in the Mahīśāsaka sect. Buddhaghosa traveled to Sri Lanka to study the Vinaya and composed several commentaries. His works played a crucial role in consolidating and elucidating the Buddha's teachings, significantly contributing to the spread of Buddhism worldwide.

2) Buddhaghosãcariyanidãna having regarded as a significant Theravāda Buddhist text was authored by Mahāmaṅgala Thera, covers the life of Buddhaghosa, an important figure in the translation and propagation of the Pali Tipiṭaka. The text consists of 10 versions and 27 bindings, preserved at the National Library in Bangkok. This research selected only the 3 most complete bindings for transcription and translation into Thai. Its core contents include: (1) His Biography and birth, (2) His studies in India and Sri Lanka, (3) His translation and writing works, such as the Visuddhimagga, (4)The propagation of Buddhism in various regions and (5) His honors and end of life.

3) Its significances and values towards Buddhism, this text was composed with a mix of prose and poetry, predominantly prose. It is an essential document providing historical knowledge and development of Buddhism during that era and serves as a crucial source for studying contemporary Theravāda Buddhism. It because, had refered the 6 times from Tipiṭaka, the 3 times from Abhidhammāvatāra, and 9 times from Jinālaṅkāra. This text, therefore, played significant roles in study the history of Buddhism, particularly the spread from the India to Sri Lanka, the establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and the history of Buddhaghosa the Elder.
