This thesis entitled “Buddhism-based resolution to the problems leading to conflict in Thai society” consists of three objectives: 1) to study the problems leading to conflict in Thai society 2) to analyze the Dhamma principles concerning conflict resolution in Thai society 3) to suggest Buddhist ways to resolve conflict in Thai society. This is qualitative research. Methodology and research instruments were document research and in-depth interviews were conducted with six individuals from Thai society, including a monk, an academic, students, and members of the general public.
The findings found that the issues leading to conflict in Thai society can be divided into three main problems: Political and government, economy, and society. According to Buddhist principles mentioned in the Tipitaka, these problems originate from three causes: craving (Tanhā), views (Diṭṭhi), and conceit (Māna), which are the root causes of individual conflicts. Several Dhamma principles can be applied to resolve conflicts arising from these issues. This research analyzes and selects appropriate Dhamma principles to address the problems leading to conflicts in Thai society based on case studies from the Tipitaka. From the analysis, several Dhamma principles can be used to resolve conflicts, but three principles are suitable for resolving conflicts in
Thai society, which are The Six Sārāṇīyadhamma for resolving political and government issues, the Four Diṭṭhadhammikattha for resolving economic issues, and the Seven Sappurisadhamma for resolving social issues. The process of integrating three Dhamma principles to address conflicts in Thai society according to the Buddhist way requires the Four Noble Truths as a foundation and analytical framework to resolve the problems together. From the research results, it is possible to use the Buddhist way to resolve conflict in Thai society effectively and can apply it to daily life.
