บทคัดย่อภาษาอังกฤษ

                  The thesis entitled “The Guidelines for Promoting the Role of Monks in Community Development: A Case Study of Rice Bank, Pho Chai Subdistrict, Wapi Pathum District, Maha Sarakham Province” consists of two objectives: 1) to study the roles of monks in community development, Pho Chai subdistrict, Wapi Pathum district, Maha Sarakham province; and 2) to study the guidelines for promoting the role of monks in community development, Pho Chai subdistrict, Wapi Pathum district, Maha Sarakham province. This is a qualitative research studying from relevant documents to determine the research question. The research area includes Pho Chai subdistrict, Wapi Pathum district, Maha Sarakham province. The target groups for data collection are monks and community leaders. The data is collected by means of the field study through an in-depth interview with important content, namely the roles of monks in community development and guidelines for promoting the role of monks in community, Pho Chai subdistrict, Wapi Pathum district, Maha Sarakham province. The data were analyzed by the inductive method and data were presented by the descriptive method.

                 Monks, apart from being mentally dependent by laypeople or being the religious leaders, also play a role in community development in many areas, especially the establishment of rice banks. The monks have been involved since the initial stage such as the establishment of a rice bank in the community, the establishment of a rice bank committee, the draft of rice bank regulations, the procurement of rice in order to start the rice bank, etc. As for the guidelines for promoting the role of monks in community development, monks should be encouraged to play a role in instilling people in the community with awareness of compassion, sacrifice, discipline, responsibility, honesty, and spending economically. Including, living in accordance with the sufficiency economy philosophy in order to help people in the community to live better and be self-reliant leading to sustainable community development.
